The Bicycle Nation!

The world is getting stranger. In other parts of the internet I have been conversing with people back and forth on the relative merits of conservative politics versus liberal politics. It has occurred to me now that what we really need is some non-partisan leadership on issues. The Republicans are blaming the Democrats for their bleeding heart need to make sure that human beings get taken care of. The Democrats blame the republicans for being obstructionists at all costs even if it means that human beings go naked and hungry in the streets. The ideologies of both sides are getting in the way of rational thought and sensible solutions. Ideologues can't seem to get behind compromise. Compromises seem to happen as a result of pandering. Ideas that start out with strength all get watered down into ineffectiveness. It's maddening. I guess the problem is that lots of people want something for nothing. Others don't want to share even if it seems fair.
In the Bicycle Nation (the one that exists in my mind), people would learn to compromise their own personal desires to contribute to the general well being of the society. The society would evolve into one that is fair for all participants in a way that could not be hijacked by individuals with nefarious agendas for self enrichment on the backs of others. H.G. Wells envisioned such a future but I suppose it can only exist in a fictional Utopia. How sad. I will continue to ride my bike!
